5/29/19 Worcester, MA

Chris Dickinson’s road to Americanrana continues as he squares off with the returning Filthy Tom Lawlor tonight. Anthony Greene will get a shot at finally shutting up Chuck O’Neil. Paul Crocket and Josh Briggs are on commentary tonight. Looks like there’s some stream issues this week.

Match 1: Nick Gage vs Jay Freddie

This is Jay Freddie’s biggest match in a Beyond ring. Gage is fresh off beating Josh Briggs on last week’s show. We are apparently missing a ring bell? Both men chopping, throwing fast forearms and begging for more damage. Gage tossed to the outside and Freddie dives after. Gage puts Jay Freddie through the Beyond merch table. Back in the ring, spinebuster from Gage. Superplex from Freddie. Piledriver from Gage for a two count. The adrenaline is flowing hard through both these guys. Gage with a running foot wash but Freddie gets the knees up on a corkscrew elbow drop. Freddie with a shining wizard and tombstone for a near fall. Gage goes for the chokebreaker but Freddie reverses into a sharpshooter. Rope break! Freddie going for a dive but Gage moves, hits a piledriver and chokebreaker for the three count.

Winner: Nick Gage

Great energy here. Jay Freddie pushed Gage hard and this match showed. Gage leaves the ring and passes Thomas Santell, making his entrance for the Discovery Gauntlet. These two have a moment... well now.

And of course, that means it’s time for the Discovery Gauntlet! You gotta win it to stay in it! DL Hurst is the challenge tonight. Fresh off a broken leg recovery, he’s ready to show everyone a new side of himself and take the Gauntlet for himself.

Match 2: Thomas Santell vs DL Hurst

Hurst attacks before the bell and it choking him with his T-Shirt. Tossed to the outside, Santell gets rammed into the post and brick wall. Hurst on the mic while Santell writhes and the crowd boos hell out of him. Hurst gets caught in a rear naked choke but DL takes the eyes. DL Hurst is angry and aggressively pummeling Santell. Toss over by Santell and he’s got a deep neck crank but DL gets the rope. Hurst with a float over suplex for a near fall. The crowd still hot as hell for Santell, who reverses again and tries to lock in a sugar hold. Hurst on the top but Santell boots him and hits a double underhook superplex. Hurst with a DVD and fisherman’s buster for near falls but Santell is firing up. Hurst chops him down again and hits a big codebreaker for another near fall. DL misses a moonsault and eats a German and fisherman’s Buster. They battle over a German and Santell rolls through into a sugar hold and DL Hurst taps!

Winner: Thomas Santell

Another good match out of the Discovery Gauntlet! Loved seeing this dimension of the match which showed a new exciting side of DL Hurst and had Santell on the defensive a lot here. Cam Zagami is in the ring to interview Santel but Ken Doane is back out, trying to fight fans and getting in Santell’s face. Ken punches Cam to get the mic and yell at fans again but the refs eject him from the building. What a weird thing Ken Doane is doing here.

Match 3: Davienne (w/ Skylar) vs Allie Kat

Skylar took a cheap way out of her winning effort against Solo Darling last night and now is friends with Davienne. Davienne is angry early. Both ladies are hitting some heavy stuff, Davienne with a death kick which sends Kat gut-first into the post. Kat with a German suplex. Kat whiffs a senton and Davienne hits a fisherman’s buster for a near fall. Kat with a pop-up headbutt but Skylar gets Davienne’s foot on the rope. Solo Darling out to take out Skylar, distracting Davienne enough for Allie Kat to hit a huge lariat for the pin. Davienne attacks after the bell but Solo runs her off.

Winner: Allie Kat

Davienne never really seemed in trouble here until her new tandem with Skylar was instantly defanged by Solo Darling and she was dropped with a lariat.

Match 4: Bear Country (Bear Bronson & Bear Beefcake) vs To Infinity and Beyond (Colin Delaney & Cheech)

Bear Country has been on a tear the last few weeks in Beyond. Alpha-1’s To Infinity And Beyond is comprised of WWECW’s Colin Delaney and Cheech, formerly of ROH’s Special K faction. Delaney tries to go for a test of strength on Beefcake and fake him out with a high five. Beefcake wants none of it and goes to work, chopping down Delaney and the tagged in Cheech. Cheech absorbs a bunch from Bronson until they start hitting some tandem offense. This doesn’t last as they have a REALLY BAD gameplan which seems to be just trying to go toe to toe with Bear Country. Delaney is just getting chopped to death. Beefcake with an elbow drop to the back. Bronson with a uranage and senton for a near fall. Delaney with a stunner on Beefcake and Cheech gets the tag....and is immediately dropped by the bears. Cheech is still fighting, hitting Beefcake with a spring DDT but Bronson mauls him again. Beefcake with a spinning gutwrench powerbomb on Cheech for a near fall. Delaney with another stunner and Cheech with a rana and finally they are getting some sustained offense. Delaney with another springboard stunner on Beefcake and Cheech with a splash for a near fall. They go for a double superplex but Bronson cleans house, hitting Cheech with a package piledriver onto Delaney. Elevator splash on both and Bear Country gets the win.

Winners: Bear Country

Good final few minutes but this match felt like it got a bit lost in the weeds until that point, making this feel like a prolonged squash that shouldn’t have been.

We see a promo from VSK from “Lethal Lottery” a few weeks back, where he shoots on his time away from Beyond and his now defunct tag team. He’s got his former Massage Force partner’s mask in tow. Graves is coming out to the old Massage Force theme.

Match 5: VSK vs Dorian Graves

Graves tosses VSK immediately, hitting a running kick and a top roll somersault dive to the outside. Graves presses the offense on the inside, trying to get revenge for VSK’s harsh word and mask disrespect. VSK finally takes over and hits tope suicida and lays Graves out of the floor. Dorian barely makes the ten count and kicks out of a moonsault. VSK is going for the mask. Graves in the tree of woe and VSK hits a flip senton into it. Graves with a enziguri and rana’s VSK off the top. Backbreaker and a double underhook suplex to VSK. Big facebuster from Graves for a two count. Trading shots in the center until Graves hits some of those trademark massage chops which VSK wants none of. Double stomp and a lariat from Graves for another two count. VSK hits a German for a near fall. A Spanish Fly for another. A superkick for another! VSK is frustrated as hell. He whips Graves but he falls before the rope and struggles back to his feet. Sudden spinning side slam and a michanoku driver for a two count from Graves! Graves going for a Gory Special, VSK stops it, rips off the mask and stacks him up for the sudden pin.

Winner: VSK

From a story standpoint, what happened here? Until Lethal Lottery, there was really no reason for this, as Massage Force was one of Beyond’s fan favorite tag teams with zero issues. This feels like the crowd was missing a huge chunk of build for this and had a hard time getting into the contest. The action itself was solid, but they probably did too much for the amount of build this contest had. I really wish this had a proper build of a few weeks to give the tag split an appropriate amount of emotional response it needed to connect.

Match 6: Chuck O’Neil vs Retrosexual Anthony Greene

Greene sends the Platinum Hunnies to the back immediately and hits a drop kick before the bell. Chuck immediately fights back but gets tosses to the outside and dove on. Greene hits a crossbody for a two count. Chuck with a kick to the gut as Greene tries an up and over and is getting stomped out now. Chuck is picking apart Greene’s arm. Chuck is just mailing him. Greene tried to reverse into a cutter but gets Germaned. O’Neil is kicking Greene’s arm off and hits a running kick for a near fall. Chuck is taunting Josh Briggs from the ring mid-match. Greene firing up and dumps Chuck on his face for a two count. Greene going for the unprettier but Chuck hits a Michanoku driver into an arm bar. Greene hits the arm bar but Chuck pops up. German from Chuck but Greene pops up. Chuck with the arm bar and Greene taps out immediately.

Winner: Chuck O’Neil

This was great. Chuck stays in the ring to lay more of a beating on Greene which prompts Josh Briggs to head down to the ring, pulling Greene to safety. Briggs says next week, he’s taking out Chuck O’Neil.

Main Event: Chris Dickinson vs Filthy Tom Lawlor

Richard Holliday has replaced Briggs in the booth again to call this match featuring the backbone of Beyond Wrestling facing the current MLW World Champion. We start with some Joey Ryan level goofs as Lawlor takes his mouthpiece out, Dickinson steals it and puts it in his trunks, Lawlor gets it back and puts it back in his mouth, Dickinson runs to the bathroom to wash off. They get into some stand up stand off, trying to establish dominance. They scramble on the mat until Dickinson fires up with slaps and chops, sending Lawlor to tumbling to the outside. Lawlor coming back with stiff short punches and chops against the bricks. Dickinson with clubbing lariats against the post, but Lawlor dodges one and exploits the arm. Back in the ring, Lawlor is targeting Dickinson’s arm further and keeping the Dirty Daddy down with kicks. Dickinson absorbs a pile of kicks and pops up with strikes, just pure fire and pissed off. Huge lariat but Dickinson’s arm won’t let him get the suplex on Lawlor. He hits a one-arm DVD and more lariats for a near fall. Lawlor looks out of it and Dickinson is going for a superplex. Filthy Tom reverses with a shell shock, kicks and going for a rear naked choke. Dickinson is in a bad way here but flips the choke into a pin attempt. Sleeper hold from Lawlor but Dickinson with a back suplex to dump him on his head. Dickinson can’t do the Pazuzu bomb and eats a piledriver for a near fall. They are trading strikes and kicks in the center until Dickinson hits a huge lariat...but Lawlor kicks out! Spinning back kick and Lawlor kicks out again. Trading strikes again and Dickinson hits another huge kick for the pin.

Winner: Chris Dickinson

Dickinson on the mic puts Lawlor over huge. The crowd chants for him to come back. Lawlor reminds them he’s been here a few times already but since he has nothing to do next week...he’ll be back next week. This match was a lot of fun. Dickinson has been on a tear lately and Lawlor is proving to be another great example of an MMA guy turned pro wrestler.

Next week, Dickinson announces his opponent will be The Walking Weapon, Josh Alexander. Wow!
