Angry AEW Dynamite: Blood & Guts Live Coverage - May 5th, 2021

    AEW Dynamite: Blood & Guts

This week on DYNAMITE, it's the Blood & Guts special event with The Inner Circle vs. The Pinnacle in a locked double cage! Cody Rhodes faces former friend QT Marshall. Jurassic Express, SCU, Varsity Blonds and The Acclaimed fight to determine #1 tag team contenders. Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston take on AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Michael Nakazawa. Also, Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. is in action!

    – The opening intro video package and theme song plays and then we shoot live inside Daily's Place amphitheater in Jacksonville, FL., where more fireworks and pyro than usual begins exploding as Jim Ross says his usual "It's Wednesday night, and you know what that means ..." catchphrase.

    – From there, J.R.'s commentary partners, Tony Schiavone and Excalibur, join him on the broadcast to quickly run down the advertised matches and segments for tonight's show as the official promotional graphics flash across the screen.

AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and MT Nakazawa with Don Callis vs. Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston

Callis cuts off Justin Roberts to do his own announcement of Omega, but Callis says Omega isn’t here tonight though. Commentary saying they literally saw Omega backstage. Callis announces Nakazawa is going to wrestle Kingston and Moxley on his own. The duo make their way through the stands, Omega attacks them from behind with the title.

Match ends up starting anyways as Omega beats up Kingston for a moment before tagging Nakazawa back in. Couple double team moves on Kingston, until Moxley decides to join the fun and toss Nakazawa out of the ring. Moxley is somehow the legal man now as he hits a side slam on Omega. Kenny out to the floor, Moxley with a suicide dive on both opponents. JR wondering if this is a Tornado Tag Match as the referee seems to have lost control of things. Back in the ring, Moxley and Kingston take down Nakazawa, cover, Omega breaks it up.

Nakazawa with a lowblow on Kingston while the referee tries to break up Omega and Moxley. Omega gets in the match and beats up Kingston, dragging his face along the top rope. Live crowd really booing Omega and Nakazawa in this one. Back and forth chops. Omega with a kick to the head and goes for a second rope moonsault, but nobody home.

Kingston with a falling clothesline, both Moxley and Kingston tag out. Moxley with a big lariat, another shot in the corner, followed by stomps to the face. Moxley yanks down a charging by his hair. Moxley with a release german suplex, piledriver, cover, Omega breaks it up again. Kingston tosses Omega out to the floor. Omega can’t get back in the ring, Kingston invites him in, but Omega says hell with it and goes backstage. Moxley choking Nakazawa. Lariate/half-and-half suplex combo on Nakazawa, cover, and that will do it.

Winners: Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston

    – Post-match, The Young Bucks come out and talks trash to Kingston and Moxley. The Good Brothers run in the ring from behind and attack. Young Bucks get in the ring to direct traffic. Magic killer on Moxley. Matt smacking Moxley with his sneaker and then superkicks him. Kingston is kept down on the mat. Nick hits a superkick on Kingston. Brandon Cutler (personal camera man) comes out with Omega on the stage. Kenny gets in the ring, talks to the camera for a moment, then hits a one winged angel on Kingston. Nick Jackson with a mock three-count and a lot more taunting.

    – AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida vs. Britt Baker at Double or Nothing on May 30.

QT Marshall (with The Factory) vs. Cody Rhodes (with Arn Anderson)

Rhodes gets right to work, attacking Marshall as the bell rings. Marshall is able to work his way back into the match, taking Cody’s weight belt and smacking him over the back with it. Rhodes back up, looked for a spinning powerslam, but Marshall avoids it and continues to throws bombs in the corner. Cody with a thumb to the eye to stop Marshall’s momentum, bake rake, running elbow. Cody heads to the top, but Marshall hits a double underhook suplex, deadlift german suplex as Rhodes rolls out to the floor.

Marshall and Anderson get into a bit of a brawl on the outside. Anderson grinds Marshall’s face into the ring post, which doesn’t cause a DQ? Anderson is tossed from ringside for his actions. Marshall gets back in the ring, back and forth action. Rhodes with a sunset flip, ends up pulling Marshall’s trunks down (his ass gets blurred out), Rhodes then hits a DDT and sends Marshall head-first into the top turnbuckle. Rhodes goes up top, moonsault, cover, two-count.

Cody cutter, caught in midair, Marshall hits cross rhodes, cover, two. QT looks for diamond cutter, no, QT tries for a powerbomb, has to reset, then hits a buckle bomb. Marshall tries for a tombstone piledriver, reverse, another one, and one more! Rhodes finally hits it on Marshall, cover, 1-2-no. Cody ducks a punch, cross rhodes, cover, 1-2-no? Marshall really sticking around in this one. Cody confused by that as the crowd chants “QT sucks!” Cody helps him up, QT with a middle finger, Rhodes with the figure-four and Qt finally taps. Cody looks to have a cut near his eye at some point near the end of the match.

    Winner: Cody Rhodes

    – Post-match, Anthony Ogogo heads out to the ring and punches Rhodes right in the midsection, sending him down to the mat. Ogogo then covers him with a British flag.

    – Last week, Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page attacked Sting and Darby Allin after last night’s main event. Sting is apparently out of action after Sky putting a heel hook on him.

    – Up in the stands, Alex Marvez talks with Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page. Sky says Sting is nothing more than a mosquito, sucking on the blood of AEW. Sky says we kill mosquitoes and he lets Sting know that he’s overstayed his welcome. “I’m the franchise now, b****.” Page says he and Allin have a lot of history, but they are matches that nobody has ever seen. Page says Allin’s paint is to cover up a dent Page once put in his forehead, so is the piece of metal that he had to have put in his arm.

Allin attacks Page out of nowhere. He throws Sky into some garbage cans and is able to climb up and hit a coffin drop on Page! Sky runs over with a trash can and smacks Allin with it. Page has some spiked boots on and shoves Allin’s face down on them. He then throws Allin down the concrete steps! Medical eventually checking on Allin as Page and Sky look on. Allin able to make his way to the back.

Britt Baker (with Rebel) vs. Julia Hart

Baker with a shot to the midsection and a couple shoves to her opponent’s face. Baker with an elbow and hits a big slingblade. Baker asks Rebel for her glove, puts it on, hits an air raid crash, cover, pulls her opponent up. Baker then applies lockjaw and smiles as her opponent taps out.

    Winner: Britt Baker

    – Taz talks about Christian Cage’s frog splash and kill switch. Taz shows Cage having a lack of explosion from his quads to get bigger impact on his splash. He then critiques his kill switch finisher. We then see how Powerhouse Hobb threw Christian around in their match. Taz also mentions how Brian Cage defeated the number one contender Hangman Page.

Title Eliminator Match: Varsity Blonds vs. SCU vs. The Acclaimed vs. Jurassic Express with Marko Stunt

Winners of this match get AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks on next week’s Dynamite. Nagata says he accepts Moxley’s challenge and will return to the U.S. Moxley (with the title) said he came to Nagata with respect, but ended up getting called a “little punk” by Nagata. Moxley says Nagata is going to learn his mouth will get him into trouble, especially when he’s stepping in the ring with Moxley. Moxley says people have wondered for a while when Nagata just won’t get up again, and everyone is going to learn very soon.

    – Tony Schiavone announces Kenny Omega is out for a big announcement for Double or Nothing. Omega comes out with Nakazawa (and all of his titles). He hypes the crowd up for Blood and Guts, but doesn’t seem to be too interested himself. Schiavone says the two top contenders will go one-one-one next week. It will be PAC and Orange Cassidy with the winner facing Omega at the PPV. Omega talks about the AEW rankings and why wins matter. He brings up his history with PAC and how people would want to see them have a big rematch. Omega wants to see that match happen and wants Schiavone to just announce that match. Orange Cassidy comes out to the stage for a big pop.

Omega laughs at the thought of Cassidy winning the match and facing him. Omega says he’s a feel good wrestler as people like him because they can be like him. Nobody can be like Omega though. Omega says Cassidy isn’t championship material, except for the sunglasses (“which you clearly ripped off from me”). Omega takes them off and checks out Cassidy’s shades (says they are legit!). Omega says Cassidy won’t ever take his title, but he did take up Omega’s time, so he’s going to take something of Cassidy’s. He puts the shades on Nakazawa, says they look better on him. Omega tells Cassidy that maybe in ten year, when Cassidy becomes a full grown man, maybe he will see him in the ring. Omega heads off with Cassidy standing there looking annoyed.

    – Miro heads out to the stage to speak with Tony Schiavone. Miro just takes away the mic and says nobody is going to distract him from his destiny. He says if someone has a title, they have a problem. Miro pulls out a signed contract and seven days from tonight, he’s coming for AEW TNT Champion Darby Allin on next week’s Dynamite. This match has two referees on the outside, one for each team. Looks like Harwood is already busted open. Guevara with a double springboard cutter as the clock ticks down.

    MJF enters the match.

Crowd boos as MJF makes his way in. Wardlow with a chop block on Hager, MJF then jumps in and stomps away on Hager. He then taunts a bit and yells at Jericho. Wheeler is very bloodied now, maybe more than anyone else. The Pinnacle huddles up in one ring.

Both sides take a moment to look at each other and then charge to the middle! Everybody pairing off and swinging away. Now that everyone is in the match, it’s submit or surrender. Spears climbs up the cage, Jericho follows him and chokes him on part of the cage. Everybody continues to battle as we go to a picture-in-picture commercial break.

One ring has been torn apart as the wood has now been exposed. Santan and Ortiz with the help of Sammy hit stereo spiked piledrivers! Spears has taken down the top rope and was going to hit Jericho with it. Ortiz has Spears in a tree of woe, Ortiz puts a chair in front of him. Guevara with coast to coast and drills the chair into Spears! Jericho ends up getting that turnbuckle part and smacks Spears with it. Santana suddenly has a fork in hand as Ortiz holds MJF (also busted open) gets gouged in the forehead with it. Inner Circle look to have MJF on his own as Jericho chokes Wardlow out with the bat.

Guevara with a chairshot to the head. Inner Circle continues with the momentum, until Tully Blanchard throws the referee into the barricade and takes a key to the cell. MJF is able to escape and run up the cell. Jericho follows, tossing Blanchard aside. Jericho climbs up to the top of the cage.

MJF begs Jericho off, but takes a foot to the face and then walls of Jericho. MJF might tap, but throws his fist back to hit a lowblow on Jericho. MJF with a fujiwara armbar on Jericho and then bites his arm. People battling still in the cage. MJF puts his diamond ring and punches Jericho in the face. He tells Jericho to “give up!” MJF then looks over the edge of the cell and back at Jericho (with menace in his eyes). He says if Inner Circle doesn’t surrender, then he’s throwing MJF off the top! Guevara telling MJF not to do it and Guevara ends up surrendering to save Jericho.

Winners: The Pinnacle due to Inner Circle surrendering
