Former WWE Superstar Ted DiBiase Jr. is facing serious consequences after being charged with multiple felonies stemming from the Mississippi welfare scandal.

In May 2022, the Mississippi Department of Human Services sued DiBiase, his brother Brett and their father Ted Sr. among several others.

The suit sought to reclaim over $20 million in squandered money from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families anti-poverty program.

The DiBiases were paid to provide services that the Mississippi State Auditor determined either did not happen, or were not provided to an expected standard.

This week, the Department of Justice formally charged DiBiase, among others of fraudulently obtaining federal funds that were misappropriated for their own benefit.

DiBiase is charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, six counts of wire fraud, two counts of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, and four counts of money laundering.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison for the conspiracy count, a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for each wire fraud count, and a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for each count of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds and for each count of money laundering.

The filing adds that "five sham contracts" were awarded to DiBiase's companies 'Priceless Ventures LLC' and 'Familiae Orientem LLC.'

Prosecutors in the case stated that "DiBiase allegedly used these federal funds to buy a vehicle and a boat, and for the down payment on the purchase of a house, among other expenditures."

Ted DiBiase Jr. isn't the only member of the famed wrestling family caught up in the welfare fund scandal.

In December 2020, Brett DiBiase pleaded guilty to making fraudulent statements and paid $5,000 in restitution.

Last month, Brett pleaded guilty to one federal charge of conspiracy to defraud the United States.

In October 2021, a court ordered Ted DiBiase, Sr. to pay $722,299 of the misappropriated funds given to his Heart of David Ministries.

In April 2022, the Mississippi Office of State Auditor reported that DiBiase Sr. received a $250,000 check for 'services' as a motivational speaker.

DiBiase Sr. forwarded an email from the welfare grantee to his sons, Ted DiBiase, Jr. and Brett DiBiase, stating, “Look what I got today!"
