IWGP Women's Champion Mercedes Moné will be staying with Bushiroad for the foreseeable future after agreeing to a contract extension.

When Moné debuted for New Japan Pro Wrestling in January, it was reported that she was on a short-term deal for a handful of matches.

Bushiroad, the parent company of New Japan and Stardom recently confirmed that her upcoming title match with Mayu Iwatani is the final match on her deal.

Moné later said in an interview that this wasn't the case, implying that a deal had already been reached for her to stick around.

In an update, Dave Meltzer reports that Moné and Bushiroad have agreed to an extension of her current deal, though it is unclear for how long.

Moné recently took to social media to say she plans on moving to Japan full-time in order to commit herself further to her role with Bushiroad.

Moné will defend her IWGP Women's Championship against Iwatani later today at the Stardom All-Star Grand Queendom event.

Moné has only had a handful of matches in New Japan Pro Wrestling so far, with her most recent coming at NJPW Sakura Genesis earlier this month.

In Tokyo, Moné had her first successful title defense since becoming IWGP Women's Champion, retaining against AZM and Hazuki.

In his report, Meltzer added that the plan is for Moné's next match after tonight to take place in the United States.

There is no word yet on who the former WWE Superstar will face in that match.
