AEW star Willow Nightingale will put her her NJPW Strong Women's Championship on the line next month against Giulia at NJPW Independence Day: Night Two.

Nightingale is in her first (and inaugural) reign as champion, having won the title at the Resurgence event in May. Mercedes Moné was supposed to win the title in the climax of a four-woman tournament until the ex-WWE Superstar suffered an injury that forced her to call an audible in the ring.

Since winning the title, Nightingale has defended on AEW Rampage and ROH Honor Club TV, defeating Emi Sakura and Rachel Ellering respectively. Now the title will be defended for the first time at a New Japan-branded event.

This won't be the only match for the pair, as during Night One, Nightingale will team with Momo Khogo to face Giulia and Donna Del Mundo stablemate, Thekla.
