Don King's return to the world of professional wrestling was a lengthy process according to MLW CEO Court Bauer.

At MLW Never Say Never, Alex Kane captured the World Heavyweight Championship from Hammerstone, ending the 600+ day reign of the former champion. Kane's mystery backer for his Bomaye Fight Club was revealed to be none other than the legendary boxing promoter Don King.

Kane was previously managed by American Top Teamer leader Dan Lambert until a falling out between the two. Speaking with the New York Post, Bauer explained how King's return to the world of professional wrestling happened.

"There was no other option on the table... We're like that's the perfect landing if we can stick the landing."

Bauer added that he had talks with King close to two years ago, but scheduling issues made Bauer concerned that the idea would never come to fruition.

"Don King is a legend and a symbol of black excellence. I wanted to tell the world, but I had to keep it quiet."

Don King briefly appeared for the World Wrestling Federation in early 1998 as part of Mike Tyson's involvement in the product. Tyson (serving a suspension from boxing for biting the ear of Evander Holyfield) would play a large role in the Shawn Michaels-Steve Austin feud that culminated with Austin's first World Championship win at WrestleMania 14.

Kane's faction, the Bomaye Fight Club, takes its name from the famous chant from fans in Zaire chanted at Muhammad Ali during his 1974 'Rumble in the Jungle' fight against George Foreman. During the fight, the Congalese crowd chanted "Ali, Bomaye," translated from Lingala to English as "Ali, kill him!"
