Either Matt Cardona or Colt Cabana will add a unique accolade to their careers by becoming the very first Premier World Champion.

On Busted Open Radio, Freddie Prinze Jr. announced the match which will celebrate the spirit of independent wrestling. The match will go down at the Wrestling Showcase event on September 9, in Metuchen, New Jersey.

For Matt Cardona, capturing the Premier World Championship seems like the obvious role for him. The self-professed 'Indy God' has been collecting championships from multiple promotions ever since his release from WWE in April of 2020. Right now, the former Zack Ryder holds the Wrestling Showcase Championship, AIW Absolute Championships, WSW World Heavyweight Championship, SCX Championship, Jericho Cruise Oceanic Championship, the (self-created) Internet Championship, and the HOG Heavyweight Championship.

Colt Cabana is no stranger to championship gold either, having been a two-time ROH World Tag Team Champion (both times with former best friend CM Punk.) Cabana has also held the Rev Pro British Heavyweight Championship, the OVW Television Championship, and is a two-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, in addition to being a two-time National Champion with the NWA. Cabana also competes for AEW, and challenged for the ROH World Championship during the November 2, 2022, episode of AEW Dynamite, albeit in a losing effort.
