Don Callis was legitimately attacked during a press conference following AAA's TripleMania XXXI: Tijuana event, but it wasn't a fan who attacked him.

After making his presence felt ahead of the show's main event between AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo and Kenny Omega, Callis and Omega had an interaction during the post-show press conference. This led to Konosuke Takeshita blindsiding 'The Cleaner, but as security tried to separate them, Callis was legitimately attacked, suffering injuries to his ankle and neck.

While first believed to have been an attack by an overzealous fan, this is not the case. In footage from TJ Sports, it is revealed that the person who attacked Callis was a member of security, who was not informed of the planned angle between Don, Omega, and Takeshita, beforehand. There were said to have been no fans in the vicinity when the attack angle and subsequent real attack took place.

While Callis is “not believed to have been injured,” he was furious after what transpired. As seen in the video footage, Callis steps in to kick Omega which prompted the member of security, believing Callis' attack to be legitimate, to step in and tackle him to the ground. This then prompted AAA's executive Konnan to step in and try and defuse the situation.

Callis can be heard saying, “What the f**k is going on here? Jesus Christ" after the attack. He has since returned to the United States and underwent medical evaluation in San Diego. His status for this week's AEW Blood & Guts episode of Dynamite is not known at this time.
