Eric Young Requested WWE Release Over Vince McMahon Return

Late last year, Eric Young reportedly signed with WWE, which had resulted in him literally being killed off in Impact Wrestling. Subsequently, he never showed up on TV, though, which raised a lot of questions. A new report from Sean Ross Sapp at Fightful Select, though, answers some, but not all of those questions: Apparently, Young asked to be released from his contract in April, had his request granted, and his 90 day severance period has passed. This at least explains why Young's return was strongly hinted at on Thursday night's episode of "Impact."

The story doesn't end there, though. Per Sapp, Young made his request "right after" the deal to merge WWE and the UFC was announced in April, a deal that was somewhat contingent on Vince McMahon returning to WWE. This reportedly "wasn’t a coincidence," with Young giving "moral, creative and personal reasons" why he did not want to work with McMahon. Why Young was never brought back to TV before this was not reported by Fightful, though Sapp is seeking to confirm creative plans that had been in place for him for after WrestleMania.

The "moral reasons" presumably tying to the allegations of sexual misconduct against McMahon that became headline news last year. It should be noted, though, that an unnamed Impact executive was confirmed to have been investigated for sexual harassment in 2019, with the legitimacy of the investigation later called into question.
