NJPW G1 Climax 33 results from Sendai, Japan - July 19th, 2023 (Block C &D)

1 - Toru Yano vs. Zack Sabre Jr.

Kosei Fujita comes to the ring to Zack Sabre Jr's music and wearing the NJPW TV Belt. Yano puts his robe on Yuta Nakashima and throws him in the ring. Yano refused to wrestle Fujita and decided that the young lions should wrestle and walks back to the locker area. ZSJ jumps him and applies a sleeper. They battle on the floor and Yano ties up ZSJ. ZSJ hops back to the ring to break the count out. Yano goes for a cradle pin but ZSJ kicks out. Yano tries to go for the turnbuckle but Fujita has affixed each turnbuckle tightly so Yano cannot use them. Fujita cuts ZSJ free. ZSJ goes for a leg submission and rolls up Yano into a cradle.

ZSJ pins Yano.

2 - Mikey Nicholls vs. David Finlay

Finlay pins Nicholls after hitting Into Oblivion.

3 - Jeff Cobb vs. Alex Coughlin

Coughlin was able to match power with Cobb by hitting an over-the-head German Suplex and Back Suplex. Very impressive. Cobb was able to hit Tour of the Islands.

Cobb pins Coughlin

4 - Eddie Kingston vs. EVIL, with Dick Togo

Kingston came prepared with a Kendo Stick to counter Togo. EVIL attacked Kingston at the bell and kept him on defense for most of the match. Togo kept interfering. Crowd kept cheering for "Eddie". Referee takes a bump. Togo tries to hit Kingston with the Kendo Stick. Kingston takes the stick and beats down Togo and EVIL. Lots of reversals and near falls. Kingston traps EVIL in a Stretch Muffler. EVIL grabs the referee. Togo hits Kingston with the Kendo Stick. Kingston swears and goes after Togo. EVIL hits a low blow then hits Everything is Evil.

EVIL pins Kingston

Solid match despite the House of Torture shenanigans. Kingston continues to look good against the top guys in New Japan.

5 - Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Shane Haste

Tanahashi pins Haste after a High Fly Flow.

Another solid match. Tanahashi looks better than he did in Toronto.

6 - Shingo Takagi vs. Aaron Henare

Great stiff match. Any match between these two are very good.

Henare pins Takagi after Streets of Rage, with less than 30 seconds left in the match.

Check this match out if you can. I did not like the repeated headbutts, but overall it was good stuff. New Japan made the choice to change the time limit of every match in the G1 to 20 minutes. This has added more drama and intrigue already. Also, it keeps the cards to about a 3 hour limit.

7 - Hirooki Goto vs. Tetsuya Naito

Naito worked on Goto's neck during the match. Naito hits Destino and gets the pinfall win.

Tetsuya Naito is showing his age. He is having a hard time to get up for Destino as Goto had to struggle to get Naito into position.

8 - Tomohiro Ishii vs. Tama Tonga, with Jado

Another solid match. Tama hits a Gun Stun and follows with a Jay Driller.

Tama pins Ishii.

Tama poses for the fans and says thank you on the mic.
