Former WWE star Tommy Dreamer concerned fans might turn on Cody Rhodes due to “John Cena effect”

Tommy Dreamer raises concern that the chosen face of the company, Cody Rhodes, might soon undergo the 'John Cena Effect' by the WWE Universe.

Cody Rhodes is undeniably one of the top babyfaces right now in WWE. The American Nightmare is rumored to be getting ready to ‘finish his story’ in a second encounter with The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns for his Undisputed Championship. But WWE veteran Tommy Dreamer is concerned that his extreme babyface attitude can result in fans turning on him like they once did on John Cena.

While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Dreamer stated Cody is “being groomed as the top babyface.” But then he showed his worries that the chosen face of the company may get the fans to turn on him even before he achieves his goal. Tommy stated this to be the ‘John Cena Effect’ as he used to get booed for being extra nice. The “Cena sucks” chants went popular during those times, while Cena became the epitome of those needless extreme babyface stars.

Cody’s babyface attitude is also justified by his sheer presence in the Stamford-based company. As he is the only superstar who has jumped guns from AEW to WWE. The American Nightmare’s return at WrestleMania 38 was greeted by one of the loudest pops. That very match began a feud between him and Seth Rollins, with Cody winning all their matches. Their rivalry culminated at the Hell in a Cell event with both stars’ absolute epic performances.

Cody’s recent feud with Brock Lesnar is also seeing its culmination at SummerSlam. The tied scenario of Cody and Brock has seen their wins at Backlash and Night of Champions, respectively. While the decisive match at SummerSlam is set to take place in a few weeks, a stipulation hopefully seems to be getting added to raise the stakes for the hard-hitting rivalry.
