A Japanese fair, a stray cat, and plenty of excellent in-ring action made up just some of the premiere event for the new Sukeban Joshi promotion.

Sukeban was announced earlier this month with a trainer that crossed anime and real life with punk music in the background. This announcement came after months of rumors of an upstart Japanese women's wrestling promotion coming to the United States.

Last night, Sukeban hosted its first event from Capitale in New York City, New York. Here are the results and other highlights from the show, courtesy of a source from PWInsider who attended the event.

Before the show:

When fans entered Capitale, the lobby was decorated to resemble a Japanese fair with free popcorn, drinks, and snacks for everyone as they waited to enter the arena.

  • The promotion had some high-production posters, hoodies, shirts, and tote bags for saying.
  • Vladimir the Superfan was in attendance and sat on the front row.
  • A source estimated the crowd as around 750 fans, with tickets selling out almost immediately.

The Show Starts:

  • Cherry Bomb Girls (Crush Yuu, Supersonic, Riko Blondie) defeated The Vandals (Atomic Banshee, Otaku-chan, BINGO)

  • KONAMI defeated Saki Bimi and Queen of Hearts (Miyuki Takase)
  • Stray Cat defeated Midnight Player
  • Dangerous Liaisons (Commander Nakajima & Lady Antoinette) defeated Harajuku Stars (Maya Mamushi & Babyface)
  • Ichigo Sayaka defeated Countess Saori

Highlights of the Show:

  • At the start of the event, a video explained Sukeban and the various factions in the promotion.
  • KONAMI, who was a surprise entrant in the triple threat, earned a huge pop from the crowd.
  • Stray Cat came out for her match from a staircase as if she were a cat slinking around. The crowd chanted "meow" at her.

  • Stray Cat and Midnight Player showed each other respect after the match.
  • Prior to the main event, Bull Nakano appeared and revealed that she was the Commissioner of Sukeban. She held up the Sukeban World Championship. By winning the main event, Sayaka has earned a spot in a match to determine the first champion at a later date.

  • After the main event, Commander Nakajima attacked Ichigo, leading to a roster-sized brawl. Nakano demanded they stop and booked Nakajima vs. Ichigo for the next event.
  • The show ran 90 minutes bell-to-bell and was commended by a source as one of the most professional first shows they've experienced.
