Angry Backstage Reason for Frequent AEW International Title Changes

The AEW International Championship has been moving from wrestler to wrestler in recent weeks and details have come to light as to why.

Over the past 39 days, the AEW International Championship has changed hands three times. At AEW All Out, Jon Moxley would capture the championship from Orange Cassidy. That reign would end after 17 days when Rey Fenix won the gold at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam. During this week's AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday, Cassidy would regain the title and become the first two-time AEW International Champion.

The multiple title changes in recent memory aren't a creative decision from those at AEW, according to Fightful Select. The original plan for AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam was for Moxley to retain the title against Fenix. Due to Moxley suffering a concussion, an audible was called mid-match and Fenix won the gold. There were tentative plans for Moxley to get the title back for this week's episode of Dynamite.

While Moxley Vs. Fenix II was promoted for AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday, Moxley was not cleared on the day of the show. Orange Cassidy was not being considered for a second title run in the weeks or even days prior to Title Tuesday, but if he wasn't chosen, it's likely whoever else AEW went with would've dethroned Fenix.

Sources indicated that Rey Fenix is dealing with visa issues that will keep him off of AEW TV for the time being. It is unknown how long Fenix is expected to be gone, but AEW made the decision to take the title, one that he wasn't supposed to win in the first place, off of him.
