MLW is set to have its upcoming live event, Slaughterhouse, at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 14 on FITE TV. The show was supposed to feature a matchup between MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Kane and Davey Boy Smith Jr. However, the company has announced that Smith Jr. is injured and won't be able to compete this Saturday.

MLW shared the news on Twitter that Smith Jr. was placed on injured reserve. While it may be disappointing that fans won't see Kane vs. Smith Jr., the company announced that "Filthy" Tom Lawlor would replace the injured star. This will be Lawlor's first match for MLW since 2021. His last match was a loss to Davey Richards in the MLW Opera Cup opening round on an MLW Fusion episode on October 13, 2021.

The addition of Lawlor makes the card official with six matches. Kane will put his title on the line for the third time. His last MLW World Heavyweight Championship defense was against Willie Mack at MLW Fury Road on September 3. The champion comes into MLW Slaughterhouse with momentum, but he has to prepare for a match with Lawlor on short notice.

For Lawlor, he will try to become the first two-time MLW World Heavyweight Championship. He held the title in 2019 before he lost it to Jacob Fatu on the July 6, 2019, episode of MLW Fusion. While the opportunity is unexpected, it's a chance for Lawlor to get a chance to become a two-time MLW champion and compete in front of the MLW crowd after being away for two years.
