FTR are no longer the AEW World Tag Team Champions and this is a decision that came from Dax Harwo
Big Bill & Ricky Starks captured the AEW World Tag Team Championships on last week's episode of AEW Collision. Given the success of FTR, who are often heralded as one of the best tag teams competing today, many were surprised by the one-sided nature of their match with Bill & Starks.
With Starks and Bill squashing FTR, many expected that this was due to a real-life injury and AEW wanting to take the titles off of FTR as quickly as they could. Going into the match, Cash Wheeler was selling a rib injury and was chokeslammed through a broadcast table, effectively taking him out of the match.
Despite this, the decision for the title change was not made out of necessity, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports. While Wheeler had X-rays, they were negative, meaning he does not need time off and could have done a full match. Instead, the decision for the title change was made by Dax Harwood to give Collision a major moment.
What's Next?
Speaking after their title win, Bill & Starks made it clear that FTR will not get a rematch. With that said, the two teams are likely to meet again on October 28, or November 4, the Observer reports. There is also the matter of the Young Bucks. The AEW EVPs earned a title shot at WrestleDream and many expected a rematch against FTR. It is currently unclear when their title match will happen.
