NJPW Strong Women's Champion Giulia could be a WWE Superstar soon enough if the promotion has its way.

Giulia is in her first reign as champion, after dethroning inaugural champion Willow Nightingale at NJPW Independence Day in July of this year. Giulia has retained the championship five times since then, with her most recent defense coming at last month's NJPW Strong Fighting Spirit Unleashed 2023 last month.

The champ also retained her gold in a four-way at this year's Multiverse United crossover show between NJPW and IMPACT Wrestling in August.

Giulia is also one-third of the reigning Artist of Stardom Champions alongside Mai Sakura and Thekla. She regularly appears for the promotion. She's been discussed as a future opponent for Mercedes Moné - but those plans may have just been upended.

WWE is in active pursuit of Giulia and are said to have "massive" interest in her, PWInsider reports. One source stated that talks are far enough long that Giulia is expected at the WWE Performance Center sometime this month. WWE is expected to aggressively pursue the reigning NJPW Strong Women's Champion.

Should Giulia sign with WWE, she'd once again be sharing a locker room with Kairi Sane, who returned to WWE at Crown Jewel 2023. Giulia's current reign as an Artist of Stardom Champion came about when she and her allies dethroned Sane, Natsupoi, and Saori Anou at STARDOM Flashing Champions in May of this year.

Giulia is under contract through March 2024, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer. She's booked with NJPW through January and wouldn't be able to start training at the WWE Performance Center without the approval of Bushiroad.

Signing Giulia would be a huge score for WWE, especially after they were unable to win back Sareee. Despite WWE wanting the Japanese star back, Sareee has signed a multi-year deal with Sukeban, the upstart Sukeban promotion. She previously competed for WWE/NXT as Sarray.
