ROH Results - 4th Nov 2006
Philadelphia, PA

The following report is by Bob Magee of PWBTS.com:

Ring of Honor returned to the Phildaelphia National Guard Armory last night before a surprisngly good crowd. A number of locals wondered how the crowd could possibly compare to the last show...the "CZW vs. ROH Cage of Death" show, which saw a Philadelphia crowd only surpassed by the Final Battle show. This late-arriving crowd did very, very well for ROH.

Christopher Daniels pinned M-Dogg 20 Matt Cross with Angel's Wings. Cross looked really good, got over well, and brought in a few of this trademark spots that CZW fans got to see in his previous bookings there.

Post-match, ROH/CHIKARA/CZW Tag Team champions Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli hit the ring and jumped both wrestlers. Allison Danger jumped on Claudio, and got punched in the face for her troubles.. Austin Aries and Roderick Strong hit the ring and made the save. Matt Sydal hit the ring to check on Daniels. Daniels then put out a challenge for Hero and Castagnoli down the road.

Ring of Honor Commissioner Jim Cornette then walked to the ring with Shane Hagadorn. Cornette heeled on the crowd, saying he came back because Homicide spit in his face in the post-CZW-ROH Cage Of Death angle; and was pissed that the fans took Homicide's side. Cornette said he would ruin Homicide's career. Cornette heeled on LAX's claims of racism. He said the rules of the match would be of his own making....Shane Hagadorn would be the special referee with anything goes rules for Corino, while Homicide could be DQ'd, and that Homicide would needs to pin Corino for a 10 count.

Homicide, Konnan, Ricky Reyes, and Julius Smokes then walked to the ring. Konnan ripped on Cornette and cut a babyface promo...of sorts...attacking Southerners like Cornette, and making sure Cornette didn't stack the deck against Homicide. Konnan asked Cornette why Reyes "isn't getting more matches". Cornette claimed Reyes wasn't good enough. Konnan challenged him to book Reyes-Hagadorn right then. Cornette went along with it, with Hagadorn shaking his head no, which was followed by Cornette ordering him to get in the ring.

Ricky Reyes submitted Shane Hagadorn. The crowd actually chanted "30 seconds", figuring the usual Reyes squash, and seemed almost disappointed when Hagadorn got some offense in.

In the Mikey Whipwreck monent of the evening, Pelle Primeau won the Four Corner Survival match, defeating Colt Cabana, BJ Whitmer, and Tank Toland. Primeau basically was the blocking dummy (but getting off a few decent spots first) for the match, but then pinned Tank Toland with a shockrollup. Primeau jumped into the bleachers and crowd surfed.

In the dream partner tag match, Samoa Joe and Nigel McGuinness defeated ROH Champion Bryan Danielson and Jimmy Rave after McGuinness hit a clothesline on Rave as Danielson and Joe brawled to the back.

In a rather odd promo, Jim Cornette came out and said that since Hagadorn couldn't referee, the main event was cancelled (um...right, Jimmy...) and that Homicide was fired (also, yeah right, Jimmy). Homicide, Konnan, and Reyes again came out, said they'd talked to Cary Silkin and Gabe Sapolsky, and got the right to ask the fans who should be fired (Cornette or Homicide). Needess to say, the crowd picked Cornette. Security dragged Cornette out.

I understand the need to write out Cornette...since Cornette is having health issues, and he's dropping bookings (with the exception of TNA PPVs) for awhile. But this came off as bizarre, and the crowd wasn't buying the "match is cancelled" shtick. If there was a need for a write-out, this was the time for Cornette to have a white suit on and bleed buckets...or tease that Homicide would fork Cornette in the eye, or something to let Homicide get back at Cornette.

Briscoes defeated Delirious and Davey Richards after the Briscoes hit a spike Jay-Driller on Delirious for the pinfall.

The hilarious moment of the night came after Delirious earlier had run in, out of, and around the ring doing his usual imitation of Saturday Night Live's Mr. Peepers on crack. An earlier announcement by the National Guard Armory demanding that a fan remove their car was repeated, followed by a Guard officer coming to ringside and standing there, which he was ready to do, match be damned, until the car's owner person realized it was THEIR car that had to be moved. The announcement was made again, and Delirious in a loud Mr. Peepers voice let out "Move the car!" which broke up everybody except the Guard officer.

In what seemed a pleasant surprise to a number of the ROH (and especially to the CZW fans in attendance), ROH Tag Team champs Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli retained their ROH titles, defeating Austin Aries and Roderick Strong by DQ, after Aries used Castagnoli's briefcase. The match was followed by a brawl out of the building. Most people assumed that with the WWE developmental offer Castagnoli received, that Castagnoli would be signing, and the Kings of Wrestling would be dropping the belts,

In the match of the night (to no one's surprise), KENTA pinned Matt Sydal with the Go To Sleep. The match seemed set up to get Sydal over as a top level worker within a competitive match.

Post-match, KENTA, who doesn't return until the spring, thanked the fans and ROH.

Samoa Joe then came out and said that when he first came across KENTA in Japan...and then in ROH, he "didn't think much of him". Joe then said he was "man enough to state when he was wrong" and said that in his eyes, KENTA had proven himself. Joe then said he had an "important message to send back to Pro Wrestling NOAH and Kenta Kobashi" (including wanting a rematch), and slapped KENTA. The locker room emptied to separate the two.

In the senseless violence match of the night, Homicide pinned Steve Corino after a lariat in a gorefest "Fight Without Honor" that involved a barbed wire bat, forks, rubbing alcohol in wounds, tables and more.

Post-match, the match Homicide yelled at Bobby Cruise to give him a bag from under the ring with Homicide saying that in Mexico a long standing tradition is at the culmination of a feud (4 years on-and-off with Homicide and Corino), the loser has his head shaved, and said that "Corino could get his shaved tonight "or the Rotts will f*ck him up for real".

Corino grabbed the mike, put Homicide as his toughest opponent ever, mentioning Dusty Rhodes and Terry Funk...and said "If you wanna shave my head, you won...so be it. I'll even start it for you."
