In an update on the contractual status of Rob Van Dam, sources close to RVD have told WrestleMag.com that his contract officially expires on July 31, and that as per the terms of his deal, he won’t be able to work elsewhere until the start of October.

Van Dam had been planning to take some time off once his WWE runs out, so any plans for him to head to TNA will not be immediate. On the subject of TNA, as previously noted at WrestleMag.com, if any talks between the two sides have taken place, it’s one of the best kept secrets in pro wrestling in recent years.

It’ll be interesting to see how RVD is booked at tonight’s One Night Stand PPV (our PPV preview will be up on the site a little later today). While everything pretty much points to an Orton win, as Rob has a few weeks remaining on his contract, there’s a possibility that WWE will give Van Dam the win on PPV then have Orton beat him up on TV in the next week or two to write RVD out.

Van Dam, along with the recently released Sabu, had been advertised for an AWWL show in in Birch Run, MI on July 21, as it was previously understood he’d be able to work that date (which was set up while both were still on WWE TV). Both have now had to withdraw from that booking, as WWE are holding Sabu to a 90-day no compete clause. Sabu recently told AWWL promoters that he had been told to not even appear at the show, let alone wrestle. My understanding is that Sabu will now appear at AWWL’s show in Michigan on August 18.

Sabu will also be heading out to Japan in October.
