Ohio Valley Wrestling TV Report

OVW TV opened with Dean Hill and Kenny Bolin announcing that this Friday at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdon, Ken Kennedy and WWE Intercontinental champion Santino Marella would be in attendance. They mentioned Marella was "OVW's own" but made no reference to his Boris Alexiev character.

They sent it up to the ring, where Roucka introduced "Your great American Troubleshooter" Michael W. Kruel. Kruel came to a podium set up in the center of the ring and announced that he was given permission by the board of directors to rule OVW from top to bottom with an iron fist. He called out Chet the Jet, who came to ringside. He told Chet that he didn't forget Chet refusing to lay down for him last week in the gauntlet and reminded everyone that OVW wrestlers must earn their chance to wrestle WWE stars. So, Chet was going to wrestle tonight in a match where the winner challenged Santino Marella for the Intercontinental title. The title announcement didn't get a big reaction, which surprised me. Kruel then told Chet his opponent was Antoni Polaski.

Chet the Jet vs. Antoni Polaski

Chet and Polaski face off. They lock up and Polaski shoves Chet back to the ropes. Chet shoots for a single leg takedown but Polaski just drilled him with a punch. Kenny Bolin says Polaski reminds him of Phil Hickerson. I could see that. Dean Hill said he also somewhat resembles PY Chu-Hi. Bolin said he's never heard of PY/. That was funny and for those who are wondering why, Hickerson was Chu-Hi during the awesomely fun era where Eric Embry booked World Class (which was also the first place Mick Foley ever became a singles player). Polaski powers Chet into the corner and knees him in the chest. As he turned away, Chet began chopping away at his back and chest. Polaski began drilling him with forearms to the face. Polaski charged him in the corner but Chet nailed the pump kick for the pin. One thing I enjoy about OVW is that when the guys hit their finishers, 99% of the time, it means that's all she wrote, even when they get executed out of nowhere.

Mike Kruel, who remained at ringside with Team America, took the ring mic and says he forgot to announce that the match is two out of three falls. Although this heel commissioner role has been done to death in the last decade, Kruel has good delivery. They go to commercial as Chet stands there dumbfounded and mad.

When they return, Polaski attacks Chet from behind as he's distracted by Mike Kruel and friends. Polaski lays him out and goes off the ropes with his twisting elbow/side splash. Polaski scores the pin, so it's now tied up one fall apiece.

Polaski goes right after Chet, not letting him up. Chet spears Polaski, who only backs up a few steps. Polaski goes for the elbow splash again but Chet escapes. Polaski catches him and drills his rear end into Chet's face in the corner. He covers Chet, who kicks up. Polaski works over Chet with a side chinlock. Chet fights his way to his feet and begins laying in shots to the gut. He goes for a sunset flip but Polaski tries to drop down. Chet escapes. Polaski misses several punches, giving Chet the chance to nail a punching combo. It looked a little screwy at first. Chet clotheslines Polaski, who falls in the corner. Chet calls for the Pump kick but Kruel grabs him for behind. That allows Polaski to drill him in the corner and splash him for the pin.

Winner: Antoni Polaski, who will challenge Santino Marella for the IC title on Friday.

Backstage
British star Steve Lewington is trying to teach redneck Jacob Duncan how to tie his tie. Duncan says he thinks he has it, but has actually tied a hangman's noose. Lewington looks exasperated. Dean Hill notes that Lewington has a lot of work to do.

They announce there will be a hula hoop competition tonight to determine what OVW Divas will be in the Divalympics Bikini Rumble Friday at Six Flags. Thank you!

Backstage
Team America are cackling about what they pulled on Chet the Jet when Cody Runnels shows up. He demands a match with Shawn Spears where he can't run away. Kruel tells him no, saying what did you ever do for me? Cody tells him that he was assigned to be the Troublemaker and unless Kruel makes a match he's going to have trouble inside, outside, and all over the ring. Kruel says that on second thought, they can have a lumberjack match tonight. Runnels asks what the catch is, but Kruel says there is no catch; he just doesn't want any trouble.

The James Boys come to the ring with Mini B(olin). All three do the Fargo Strut. The James need matching robes.

James Boys vs. TJ Dalton & Jamin Olivencia

Dalton and Jamin were the undercard guys who were driving the tag champs crazy before The Major Brothers stepped into a feud for the titles. Cassidy starts off with TJ. The babyfaces take control early tagging in and out, but Cassidy drops Jamin with a back suplex. KC tags in and nails a fistdrop. Jamin floats up and over to avoid a KC charge. Dalton tags in and he and KC trade chops. KC catches Dalton during an attempted leapfrog and drills him with a sitdown slam. Kenny Bolin takes all the credit for the James Boys' success. The James Boys hit a double DDT for the pin. One of the best things about the James Boys is they actually wrestle like heels and show a mean streak.

Winner: The James Boys

Mini B gets the mic and says they've proven again that they are the top stars in OVW. He issues an open challenge for Friday. I'm guessing the challenge is leading to someone big coming in. Mini B says there's nobody backstage that can take them and begins insulting the fans. Seth Skyfire comes out to the ring. Skyfire is a solid worker that was released a few months ago, so my guess is he's trying to earn a new deal. He says, "We accept." They James ask who the "we" is and out comes Johnny Jeter. Jeter gets a pop from the girls in the crowd. It's the James vs. Seth & Jeter on Friday. Acceptable short squash.

Backstage
Michael W. Kruel is beaming over a "signed photo" President Bush sent him when OVW TV champion Shawn Spears asks him what he's thinking. He says that he'll never be able to get away from Cody in a Lumberjack match and is obviously scared. Kruel calms him, saying he made it a Lumberjack match so he will handpick all of the lumberjacks. Kruel promises Spears that is all under control, smiling. Spears relaxes. Kruel shows off his signed photo.

Vladimir Kozlov vs. Mike Tolar

Tolar is a developmental talent that's popped up from time to time in an enhancement role on WWE TV and Heat. I don't know much about him. He tries to dropkick Kozlov, who doesn't move. Kozlov catapults him into the corner. He drills a belly-to-belly overhead suplex. He picks up Tolar for the Kremlin Krunch (Abyss' Shock Treatment) and scores the pin.

Winner: Vladimir Kozlov

Backstage
Atlas Da Bone is told by Michael W. Kruel that because he tried to revolt against him a few weeks ago. He tells Da Bone that he's going to wrestle Vladimir at Six Flags. Da Bone, cutting the first promo I've seen him do, calls Kozlov an immigrant and tells him the first rule he should have learned was, "don't write a check that your butt can't cash." Da Bone has the cartoonish, wild WWE look for sure but the promo was beyond flat. Someone needs to give him some Jimmy Valiant Boogie Woogie Man tapes since that's what his persona should be. He's a flashy, colorful, jiving character in the ring and should be talking like that as well. They show Kozlov staring angrily.

Diva Hula Hoop Competition
We go right to the ring where the 12 (12?!) Divas are going to have a Hula hoop content. The order of elimination here will determine the order of entry in the Bikini Rumble on Friday. Despite being backstage 1 second ago, Roucka is already inside the ring. Whoops. Katie Lea is first but demands to wait until the end because she's the, "Queen of England and the beautiful, sophisticated, fascinating creature in the bloody United States." Hey, that's what she said. She demands ODB go and prove she's not just an "overblown drag queen." ODB wearing a bikini looks like she's ready to bust out all over, if you know what I mean. Lea bumps her and is eliminated,so she'll be the first out for the Rumble. Victoria Crawford, a really pretty African American model who was found by Johnny Ace in a catalog was second. Someone shoved Roni James into her, eliminating her, so she's second. How in the world they are figuring this out is beyond me. Then again, I can't believe I'm writing a blow-by-blow account of a Hula Hoop content in OVW. Maryse from Smackdown is third. This time, Katie Lea shoves the referee into Maryse. ODB attacks Lea, sparking off a big brawl with all the Divas. ODB was hysterical pounding Lea with one fist while holding her beer safely in the other. Well, if they want more Divas for horribly pointless segments on the main roster, they are giving the developmental girls enough practice.

Backstage
Idol Stevens confronts Paul Burchill (again!?). He tells Burchill he cost him the OVW title and now he's going to be involved in Burchill's business from now on. Burchill tells him he's not going to get over on him and walks out, heading to the ring. Stevens seethes.

OVW champion Jay Bradley vs. Paul Burchill

Burchill using the Imperial March from Star Wars is perfect for his persona. Bradley wears a white towel over his head like Tazz used to during his in-ring career. They go back and forth briefly until Idol Stevens attacks and lays out Bradley. Burchill clotheslines Stevens. They start brawling. Mike Kruel comes out and says that all of this is going to end right now. He announces a Triple Threat match for the title on Friday. Kruel says that it will be a No DQ match, then says that doesn't seem fair to "his friend" Jay Bradley, saying Bradley's belt is the only thing on the line. Kruel then decrees they should all be putting something on the line. Stevens offers to put his brand new car on the line. They ask Burchill what he has. Burchill says he has nothing but Kruel notes that Burchill just bought a brand new house last week. He asks Burchill if he's willing to put it on the line. Burchill says he's been champion here before and he'll be champ again. Kruel announces that it's set in stone. Holy fast forward angle, Batman. What is this, TNA Impact? The stips are fine but they probably could have built that over three weeks and did vignettes showing off what the guys are actually putting up.

OVW TV champion Shawn Spears vs. Cody Runnels - Lumberjack Match

Runnels comes to the ring first. Spears come out and takes his sweet time walking around the ring waiting to enter. The fans chant for Cody. Spears stands there laughing and smiling. Team America come out with straps as lumberjacks. When the two end up on the floor, the lumberjacks whip Cody but not Shawn. Cody gets tossed back out and whipped. The look on his face was priceless, selling it like he was shot. Spears scores a near fall. Spear chops Cody in the corner but Cody reverses and starts laying his own in. Match isn't as heated and hard hitting as you might think. Runnels hits a big running clothesline in the corner. Spears backdrops Cody over the top to the apron but Runnels lands on his feet. One of Los Locos whips him with the belt while he's on the apron. Spears sends him off the apron to the floor. Runnels starts brawling with the members of Team America. He battles them off, then sunset flips Spears from the outside for the pin. Everyone attacks Runnels and they hold him down to the mat by his arms and legs. Kruel gives Spears a belt and begins whipping him. The camera was trying to get closeups of Cody's face but the other wrestlers were in the way. The episode ends with Spears standing over Runnels holding the belt as they go off the air.
