Bungie confirmed in an E3 interview last week that the oft rumored Halo DS most likely existed at one time, and that the game could grace the Nintendo handheld given the right conditions.
O’Connor noted that Microsoft does publish games on DS through THQ as was the case with Age of Empires: Age of Kings, so while unlikely, Halo could come to the dual-screen portable. “We would never rule it out, but there is nothing going on right now,” O’Connor said.
Asked if Bungie themselves would ever develop the game, O’Connor replied, “If it wasn’t a drain on resources. The problem is the DS is not an FPS [First Person Shooter] console… If we did something cool I would like to see it. But I would rather see the Halo IP on any handheld system applied to a different genre because handhelds don’t necessarily do FPS well — maybe a side scrolling shoot em up or whatever, but not necessarily an FPS.”
