Prince William has fuelled rumours he has rekindled his romance with former girlfriend Kate Middleton by inviting her to his stepmother's 60th birthday party.

Camilla Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall, turned 60 on Tuesday and will celebrate with a lavish party at Highgrove, the country home she shares with Prince Charles, on Saturday.

An unnamed royal source told The Daily Telegraph newspaper that Camilla was keen for Ms Middleton to join the party but left it up to William to decide whether to invite her.

"It was clearly William's decision but Camilla was so pleased he's invited her," the source told the newspaper.

"(Prince) Harry can't be there because of army commitments. But Camilla's children Tom and Laura will be there too with their partners.

"One or two members of the royal family have also been invited."

William and Middleton, who met at St Andrews University in Scotland six years ago, split up in April.

However, speculation about a possible reconciliation has been mounting after Middleton appeared in the royal box at Wembley to watch a concert in honour of Princess Diana earlier this month.

She was also photographed sharing a quiet drink with William at the concert's exclusive after-party.
