As if they didn't have enough troubles, the Atlanta Falcons revealed Wednesday that running back Warrick Dunn will miss three to four weeks after having back surgery.

Dunn, who rushed for a team-high 1,140 yards last year, hurt his back during offseason workouts and had the surgery on Saturday. The team held off revealing the news while it dealt with the federal indictment of quarterback Michael Vick on charges related to dogfighting.

Vick, indicted last week, was barred from training camp by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell while the league looks into possible violations of its new personal conduct policy. Meanwhile, the Falcons have another major hole to fill during the preseason while Dunn recovers.

"I felt some discomfort in my back and legs that just never subsided," Dunn said in a statement released by the team. "After consulting with the medical staff, it was recommended that we have the surgery."

If the 32-year-old Dunn needs a full month to recover, he would miss all of training camp and the first two preseason games. But he should be back in time for the Sept. 9 opener at Minnesota.

Jerious Norwood, who rushed for 633 yards in his rookie season, will move up to the first team while Dunn is out.

"The doctors told me that the discomfort would have lingered throughout the 2007 season had we not had the surgery, so I felt like this was the best course of action for me," Dunn said. "I've had a tremendous offseason, and I feel great. I plan to come back stronger than ever and will do everything I can to help us get back to the playoffs."

Dunn has five 1,000-yard seasons in his 10-year career. He has 9,461 rushing yards, which is third among active NFL backs.

Things aren't looking too great for the Falcons. Vick will most likely be gone this season, and they just traded away an amazing backup in Matt Schaub, and now it looks like Dunn won't be 100%. This is another huge blow to their offense.

It looks as if the Falcons season may be almost over already....With Vick out of Training camp and now Dunn they are going to find it really hard to bbe ready for opening day...
Joey Harrington is a good back up that can come into the game late in the game and can be trusted not to make to many mistakes but as a starter at Detroit and also Miami the guy sucked....
At Running back why the hell did they ever trade TJ Ducket for Ashlie Lelie in the first place....Ducket was a great change of pace for this team and would have been able to start for the first two games and even the season if Nessasary..

Sadly i think the day has come where the Falcons must cut their losses and trade Vick..The guy has killed off two coaches already and is never going to take the Falcons anywhere....

I also the way it sounds from the Falcons brass that Vick is pretty much played his last game in a Falcons uniform. The Falcons are going to have a tough go at it this year. Don't count them out thou they could surprise u, but I'm not counting on that.
