Dyachenko scores as United beats Club America 1-0 in SuperLiga play

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Rod Dyachenko scored in the 12th minute, and D.C. United didn't allow a shot on goal Sunday night in a 1-0 victory over Club America in the SuperLiga.

Dyachenko scored from 12 yards, pouncing on a headed pass from Christian Gomez near the penalty spot.

The victory put United in solid position to advance to the semifinals of the tournament, which features four MLS teams and four Mexican first division clubs competing for a $1 million purse. United, which has one win and one tie, wraps up group play Wednesday against the Houston Dynamo.

The loss eliminated Club America from contention. The Mexico City club has failed to generate much an attack in its first two games, managing only two shots on goal in last week's 1-0 loss to Houston before mounting hardly any challenge to United goalkeeper Troy Perkins on Sunday.

Club America's struggles were exacerbated when defender Oscar Rojas was ejected in the 49th minute for a flying two-footed tackle, forcing the visitors to play nearly the entire second half with 10 men.

United had several chances to blow the game open. Luciano Emilio twice had space in the penalty box but failed to convert, and Gomez rammed a shot off the crossbar after a long run in the first half.

The game drew 18,604 fans to RFK Stadium, about half dressed in the bright yellow of the 10-time Mexican league champions.
