Ms Clarkson's mother claims she had been about to start a new job
The mother of murdered actress Lana Clarkson has taken the stand at Phil Spector's murder trial.

Donna Clarkson told the court how her daughter had bought seven pairs of shoes for a new job just hours before she was shot dead in 2003.

She also identified a series of photos the actress had taken to seek work about a month before her death.

Mr Spector, 67, denies murder and claims Ms Clarkson, who was found at his Hollywood home, shot herself.

His defence team have tried to show that the actress was depressed at her inability to find work in the period leading up to her death.

They suggested she had forged letters from entertainment executives which had supposedly indicated she had strong prospects in an acting career.

Marc Hirschfeld, a former executive vice president of casting at television company NBC, testified that one letter with his signature was fake.

Blood patterns

Earlier, a scientist who is critical of a blood analysis carried out by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Laboratory was called to take the stand again by Mr Spector's lawyers.

Crime scene photos of Ms Clarkson's hands on the night she died show her hands had a small amount of blood on them.

Lawyers are trying to determine whether the blood patterns indicate a suicide or murder.

Ms Clarkson, who was a B-movie actress, was 40 when she died of a gunshot wound to the face.

Mr Spector, who pioneered the "Wall of Sound" recording technique in the 1960s, faces between 15 years and life in prison if convicted.
