Ricky Gervais performed a one-off show at Edinburgh Castle
Comedian Ricky Gervais is to donate the profits from his sell-out performance at Edinburgh Castle to a Scottish cancer charity.

The creator of The Office and Extras had been criticised for the scale of the show, which dominated the final weekend of the Fringe festival.

Some fans also complained that the £37.50 ticket price was too high.

However, it has now emerged that MacMillan Cancer Relief will benefit from the success of the show.

The charity said it received confirmation of the donation on Monday morning.

However, it will have to wait a week before finding out exactly how much money it will receive.

The 8,000 tickets for the one-man show sold out six months ago.
