American rapper Snoop Dogg is to host this year's MTV Europe Music Awards, one of the biggest nights in the pop music calendar.

US rock group Foo Fighters and singer-songwriter Mika are the first acts to be confirmed for the November 1 ceremony in Munich, Germany.

The public will pick the nominees and winners in most award categories in an online vote at www.mtvema.com. Nominations will be announced in late September.

Last year's winners in Copenhagen included Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, The Killers and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The 2007 show will be broadcast to hundreds of millions of viewers in about 180 countries.

The categories include most addictive track, most impressive live band and the most interactive act of the year.
