Russell Crowe is teaming up with Leonardo DiCaprio in a film about the Iraq War.

Crowe was unable to watch his beloved South Sydney Rabbitohs play in Sydney on Sunday because he is on set with DiCaprio in the United States.

A spokesman for Crowe confirmed the Oscar winner has begun filming Body of Lies, a film based on the story of a former war correspondent the CIA hires to track down an al Qaeda leader.

The actor has shifted his entire family to the US while filming. After making an appearance in Los Angeles with his wife, Danielle Spencer, for the premiere of his new western, 3:10 To Yuma, Crowe is expected to be on set for at least two months for Body of Lies, under the guidance of director Ridley Scott.

Crowe will then undertake promotional duties for another blockbuster film, American Gangster, also starring Denzel Washington, which is due for release in November.

Although Body of Lies is the first film Crowe and DiCaprio have worked on together, Ridley Scott has directed Crowe in films ranging from Gladiator to A Good Year and American Gangster.

Body of Lies is based on the novel by David Ignatius.
