New Zealand-born Australian actor Russell Crowe has hinted that he and his wife, Danielle Spencer, are thinking about expanding their family brood.

The Academy Award winning actor and his wife are raising their two sons, Charlie, three, and Tennyson, one, at their sprawling property near Coffs Harbour on the New South Wales north coast.

But in an interview to promote his new western movie 3:10 to Yuma, Crowe says the couple might now try for a daughter.

"You'll have to ask the wife," he told Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper.

"It's under negotiations."

While Crowe has earned millions as an actor, he is determined that his children keep their feet on the ground.

"My kids are being raised in a much more affluent environment than was mine," Crowe said.

"My wife and I talk about that all the time because neither of us had this kind of experience.

"Charlie went to (pre)-school one day, and when he came home I asked him how it went, and he said "Yeah. They don't have a lot of toys".

"So it will be an ongoing battle to make sure that they can empathise with people not in their situation."
