It's good for your heart, it can ward off colds, it strengthens your immune system - now scientists say red wine can stop you going deaf.
Moderate amounts of red protects the delicate hairs in the inner ear, according to Dr Jochen Schacht in America.
Dr Schacht told New Scientist magazine experiments found antioxidants in red wine neutralised chemical agents that attack the hairs.
Red wine has similar protective properties to green tea, he said, after conducting tests on two sets of patients.
"It certainly can't hurt to increase the amount of red wine or green tea you consume," he said.
