Foxx's next film is called The Kingdom
Oscar-winning actor and musician Jamie Foxx has been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Foxx, 39, said it was "one of the most amazing days of my life".

He also paid tribute to his grandmother, who raised him.

"My grandmother's got to be spreading her wings and flying around in heaven, just so happy," he said.

Foxx won the best actor Academy Award in 2005 for his lead role in Ray.

The actor played the legendary singer Ray Charles in the biopic.

In an interview after the ceremony, Foxx came to the defence of singer Britney Spears, whose recent performance at the MTV Video Music Awards was slated by critics.

"I think Britney's going to be fine," he told the AFP news agency.

"I think that she was courageous to get up there and do her thing. I wish her well for that," he added.

The ceremony came two weeks ahead of the release of Foxx's next film, The Kingdom.

He stars as a member of a US counter-terrorism unit on the hunt for the mastermind of a bombing in Saudi Arabia.

Foxx's other film credits include musical Dreamgirls and the big screen version of Miami Vice.

His recent album Unpredictable won him the best male prize at the Soul Train Awards earlier this year.
