British singer JOSS STONE is upset after being rejected by fans and critics in her home country.

The soul star - who has spent recent years working in the U.S. - was mocked earlier this year (08) at the Brit Awards for her American accent, and was booed after turning up late for a series of gigs.

But Stone insists her fellow Britains are only voicing their disappointment after she swapped the U.K. for America.

She says, "I felt kind of sad about it actually. It's funny because the only country that hasn't liked (my third album) is my own. It's just like, well, thanks guys! It's like coming home and having them be like, 'Go away, we don't like you!'

"It's the whole country and they're mad at me for being in the U.S. Maybe it's because I dye my hair, maybe it's because my accent is messed up. But I've got to let it go and get on with my music."

Stone's third LP Introducing Joss Stone failed to repeat the success of her previous number one albums, peaking at number 12 in the U.K. charts.
