SPICE GIRL MELANIE BROWN has agreed to donate her GBP10,000 fee for her personal appearance at a charity event after she was criticised by the event's fundraisers.

The star was taking part in a Christmas sing-a-long at London department store Selfridges on Monday (17Dec07), raising money for the Make-A-Wish foundation, an organisation for terminally ill children.

Brown - who brought along husband Stephen Belafonte for the event - was paid to sing festive hits such as Santa Claus Is Coming To Town with the public, before taking a collection bucket around the assembled crowd.

A source tells the News Of The World, "All Mel B did was sing a couple of Christmas songs, sign autographs and mingle in with the crowd collecting donations in a plastic bucket.

"And for that she pocketed GBP10,000 that should have gone to needy kids. Many people felt she should have waived her fee. It's the least she could have done to help the needy kids."
However, a spokesperson for Brown has confirmed the sum will now be donated to children's hospitals in the U.S
