An urn full of ashes, a glass eye and even a small child were among the items left behind in hotels last year.

Lucky charms, mayoral chains and a pet cat have also been found in rooms at Travelodge hotels in the last 12 months.

The hotel chain has also come across a suitcase full of diamond jewellery, a £12,000 gold necklace and the keys to a Bentley car.

Bizarre items included a 6ft by 6ft remote control model helicopter and a lucky charm Buddha which the owner returned from Dubai to collect because he was experiencing bad luck without it.

Travelodge reported an increase in electrical items and games consoles being left behind by guests in 2007.

False teeth and artificial limbs have also been forgotten by customers, as well as sex toys.

Travelodge chief operating officer Guy Parsons said: "Each year our lost and found departments provide plenty of revelations. From a lucky charm Buddha to Bentley car keys, our customers' left-behinds demonstrate what a cross-section of people we serve.

"Whether guests are making a quick stopover in one of our city hotels or a long weekend in the country, the property they leave behind can tell a million tales."
