A Hull grandfather has been reunited with the wallet he lost in 1962 after it was handed in to a police station.

Ron Russell, 81, was amazed to see the wallet - complete with photos of his children, pals from his days as a corporal in the marines and dogs he reared as a breeder.

It even contained a letter from Hartley's Jam confirming Ron's employment at £700-a-year and a garage receipt.

Wife Pauline, 78, told the Daily Mirror: "It really is a blast from the past.

"We can't remember if there was any money in it, but there isn't any there now. We can't even remember how he lost it."

The wallet is thought to have been found in 1962 - but the good Samaritan did not get round to handing it in until it was recently uncovered in a house clear-out.

Police made a public appeal to track down Ron, who is now in a nursing home with Parkinson's disease.

Mark Holland, property officer for Humberside police, said: "It's great to get this back to him."
