The TNA family has received some sad news as we have learned that former female wrestler Sara Lee passed away on Saturday'
Longtime TNA fans will remember Lee from her appearances on our early 2002 Pay-Per-View events from the "Asylum" at the Tennessee Fairgrounds in Nashville - the very arena that Lee competed in during the 1950s and 60s and considered her home for so many years.
Sarah also helped with ticket sales prior to each TNA event and was the first person that greeted fans when the doors opened every Wednesday night.
Lee was one of the top female wrestlers in Tennessee in the 50s and 60s, competing for promoters Nick Gulas, Roy Welch and later, the Jarrett family. In fact, Lee worked closely with Christine Jarrett (grandmother of Jeff Jarrett), who promoted events with Gulas and Welch.
Lee also appeared in the documentary "Lipstick & Dynamite", which chronicles the stories of early female professional wrestlers.
On June 19, 2002, Lee was honored on the very first TNA Pay-Per-View from Huntsville, Alabama, as part of the legends ceremony which also included her husband Corsica Joe, Harley Race, Dory Funk, Jr., Ricky Steamboat, Jackie Fargo and Bob Armstrong.
Lee not only gave to TNA early on, but she also helped establish women's wrestling in the United States, allowing the female combatants of today to shine in the spotlight.
Sarah Lee and Corsica Joe were married for 43 years and resided in Old Hickory, Tennessee.
She will be missed by everyone in TNA Wrestling that had the opportunity to know her and work with her...
