Bill William Savage

Sept. 28, 1930-April 12, 2008

Bill William Savage, “Wild Bill Savage,” a professional wrestler, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at the age of 77.

He was born in Joliet, Ill., on Sept. 28, 1930, the oldest of three children born to John and Mary Faynik. He was a Navy man for two-and-a-half years. While in the Navy he was the Naval champion, defeating some of the better wrestlers in the nation. He also played with the Navy Sky Raiders of San Diego at North Island.

Following his departure from the Navy he became a professional wrestler. He wrestled with some of the biggest names in the business, wrestling throughout the United States, Canada, South America, Mexico, Japan, and China. His biggest match was for the World Heavy Weight Championship against Pat O’Connor.

He led a busy life. He was an auctioneer, a deputy sheriff for Clackamas County for 12 years, a businessman, developer and rancher. He ran for Clackamas County Sheriff in 1977.

He married Betty Legner on Aug. 16, 1952. She survives him. He is also survived by: daughter, Kathy Swanson and her husband Eric of Oregon City; son, Dan Savage and his wife Tiffany of Oregon City; brother, Michael Faynik of Joliet, Ill.; grandchildren, Jamie Powers, Shelly Swanson, Hunter Savage and Tayla Pense.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Nickoles Faynik.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on April 19, 2008, at Canby Funeral Chapel.

The family suggests memorials may be sent to the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital or to the Alzheimer’s Research Alliance of Oregon.

Um, only one of those people was a wrestler, so I think this belongs in off topic.
