A paedophile has been jailed indefinitely for possessing the worst child porn collection ever found in Britain.
Arthur Morley's sickening library was so bad that experienced police officers said it would haunt them for the rest of their days.
It included pictures and videos of newborn babies and toddlers being raped and abused by adults. One was so young its umbilical cord was still attached.
Prosecutor Peter Zinner told London's Southwark Crown Court that the sounds of babies in pain would haunt him "for years to come".
Morley, who had previous convictions for rape, attempted rape and indecent assault against children, and was a registered sex offender, used a false name and address and an internet cafe to avoid detection.
Despite his precautions he was eventually identified by police and arrested.
A "secret compartment" was found in his coat pocket containing a memory stick used to store images.
A similar device and laptop hard drive were found hidden in "secret compartments" in his car dashboard.
Morley, 64, of Greenford, Middlesex, pleaded guilty to 50 counts of distributing, making and possessing hundreds of indecent images of children between January 11 and March 6 this year.
The defendant bowed his head in apparent shame as Judge Peter Testar told him it was clear he posed a "high risk to the public".
That meant the only way to deal with him was to impose an "indeterminate" sentence to protect them.
He added: "The court is concerned with indecent images of the most extreme nature, and I mean extreme nature with capitals underlined.
"The material which has been described in detail by the Crown depicts the most serious abuse of the youngest of children, even babies.
"The images appear to have come into existence probably in eastern Europe and North America ... in the last 5-10 years."
Outside court, case officer Jason Tunn said: "These include some of the most distressing images of child abuse we have come across in the Paedophile Unit."
The court heard Morley was caught after police arrested another paedophile whose computer showed he had been in regular contact with like-minded perverts.
Their inquiries eventually led them to a west London internet café. A secret camera was installed and Morley eventually identified.
