A policeman and an ex prison guard reckon they've found the body of a Bigfoot and say they'll show proof.
Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer, a pair of Bigfoot-hunting fanatics, claim they discovered the animal's remains in woods in northern Georgia and that they spotted several similar creatures still alive.
The pair are promising to unveil photographic and DNA evidence of their find at a press conference in Palo Alto, California, at 12:00 today (15 August, 19:00 GMT) - in conjunction with a group called Searching for Bigfoot Inc.
According to a description on the group's website (www.searchingforbigfoot.com), the creature is male; looks half-man, half-ape; is 7-feet, 7-inches tall; weighs more than 35 stones; and has reddish hair.
A photo on the site shows what appears to be the body of a large, hairy creature with an ape-like face, stuffed into a giant freezer.
Whitton and Dyer say they won't reveal the exact location of their discovery to protect the remaining creatures.
Tom Nelson, chairman of the biology department at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, told CNN he's "pretty sceptical" the world will soon feast its eyes on a new species.
"That would certainly rock mammalogy," joked Nelson, who specialises in the study of mammals.
He said that even in north Georgia, home to the Blue Ridge Mountains and the foot of the Appalachian Trail, it stretches the imagination to think a family of 7-foot-tall creatures could have eluded hunters, hikers and creeping development until now.
"To the average person, these places just seem like extreme wilderness where you'll find lions and tigers and bears," he said. "The reality is that you're never more than a mile from a road."
