SmackDown! house show 12/29/05

Buffalo , New York HSBC Arena

Report by Mike Rickard II

Good turnout with around 6,000-8,000 people in attendance. There were as many (if not more) fans here as there were for the Great American Bash pay-per-view.

The show started with Teddy Long thanking the audience for making SmackDown! the #1 brand in sports entertainment. Teddy said he was going to repay the fans by giving them a great show and ran off the night’s lineup including the Boogeyman, Randy Orton, LOD, the Dicks, and the new WWE Tag Team Champions- MNM.

1. Boogeyman vs. Idol Stevens w. Beth & Shelly- SQUASH. Highlight of the match was Boogeyman throwing worms at the girls.
2. Triple Threat Match for the Cruiserweight Championship. Kid Kash vs. Funaki vs. Jamie Noble. Good match with Kid Kash pinning Funaki after giving him a brainbuster. After the match, Kash taunted Noble and Kash saying he beat two people. He then delivered a brainbuster to Noble before leaving. After the match, Funaki went to shake Noble’s hand but Noble slapped it away. Good match with lots of highspots.
3. Chad and James Dick vs. Legion of Doom (Heidenreich & Animal). Heidenreich read a poem before the match but the sound system was so bad it made Ring of Honor’s sound system sound like THX quality sound. The Dicks isolated Heidenreich and worked him over until he made the hot tag to Animal. LOD wins with the Doomsday Device. Animal had the crowd eating out of his hand as he incited them to chant LOD and Heidenreich whenever the chips were down. Decent match.
4. Sylvan vs. Matt Hardy- Hardy got the second biggest pop of the night. Good match with Matt Hardy fighting back to win the match after landing a Twist of Fate on the former supermodel.
5. Orlando Jordan vs. Chris Benoit- Lots of “You tapped out” chants drove Orlando Jordan crazy throughout the match. After a disappointing beginning, O.J. headed for the dressing room but Benoit chased him down and threw him back in the ring. During the match, Benoit used the “3 Amigos” (3 suplexes) which got a lot of “Eddie” chants going. Benoit wins with the crossface. After the match, the guy with the t-shirt gun came out and made a few fans happy and a lot of fans mad. Hopefully he got out during intermission.

INTERMISSION

6. Lashley vs. Vito & Nunzio (Handicap Match)- short and sweet match with Lashley getting an easy pin on Nunzio.
7. William Regal & Paul Burchill vs. Psicosis & Super Crazy-decent tag match with Regal & Burchill isolating Psicosis for most of the match. In the end, Regal & Burchill’s tag team chicanery was too much for the Mexicools and Burchill pinned Super Crazy.
8. Randy Orton vs. Undertaker- Taker got a huge pop (the biggest of the night). A really good old school match (20-30 minutes) with Orton working over Undertaker’s leg and Undertaker fighting back. After a ref bump, Orton kicked UT in the nuts and delivered a RKO. A second ref came in but UT kicked out. A furious Randy Orton then RKOed the referee. Never one to learn from his mistakes, Randy Orton tried tombstoning the Undertaker who reversed the move and got the pinfall.
9. MAIN EVENT WWE Tag Team Champions MNM (Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury w. Melina) vs. Rey Mysterio and World Champion Batista. Batista taunted Melina at the beginning of the match, making gestures to show he got busy with her. Excellent match. Rey played punching bag for MNM until he tagged Batista in. When things looked grim for MNM, they delivered a steel chair to Batista for the disqualification. After the match, Rey delivered a 619 to all three members of MNM. Fun match that ended a good house show. Lots of Eddie chants throughout the match.
