A teenage Australian boy has been arrested - for breaking into a police station.

The 16-year-old was apprehended after officers working in the Parks police station, in Adelaide, heard the sound of breaking glass.

The boy was caught in the station hall and officers swiftly locked him up, reports the Daily Telegraph.

A police spokesman said the officers heard knocking on the front doors of the station in the early hours of the morning.

"The knocking quickly turned into the sound of smashing glass, with the patrol allegedly locating the youth in the front foyer of the police station," he said.

The spokesman said the youth did not give a reason for his actions, but may have had "a bit too much to drink."

The boy was charged with breaking into the building and with causing more than £800 damage to a window and sliding door.

The youngster was denied bail and is expected to appear in the Port Adelaide Youth Court.
