GIANLUIGI BUFFON'S agent has denied the Italian keeper is on the verge of world-record switch to Manchester City.

Reports in Italy have suggested megabucks City are willing to spend £50MILLION to land 30-year-old Juventus ace Buffon.

But Silvano Martina insisted: "We know nothing about this news.

"I haven't heard anything and, to be honest, the clubs haven't come forward.

"Usually the interested clubs will contact either Juventus or the agents but I have not heard from anyone.

"I am sure City like the player but there is nothing if no-one comes forward."

Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri has also poured cold water on the rumours.

The ex-Chelsea boss said: "Manchester City's offer for Buffon?

"Well if we wait a bit maybe the number of millions will reach 100.

"At the end of the season we could even reach 150!

"No, joking apart, Gigi remains with us. He will not go anywhere."

Current City keeper Joe Hart suffered an ankle ligament injury against Hull last week and will be out for three weeks.

And with only Kasper Schmeichel available, boss Mark Hughes has been given the green light to sign a keeper on an emergency loan deal.

Hughes said: "We have been given permission to bring in a goalkeeper on loan so we'll see what's out there.

"It would be just a short-term situation to cover us for a couple of games.

"We'll see who's available and see if it's worthwhile bringing anybody in."
