Matt Henney's goal sent Barrow into the FA Cup third round with a 2-1 victory over Coca-Cola League Two side Brentford.

The game turned on its head in the 36th minute when Bees goalkeeper Ben Hamer brought down Jason Walker in the area and was dismissed, David Brown stepping up to slot home from the spot.

Brentford levelled in the 50th minute when Sam Wood's deflected cross fell at the feet of Charlie MacDonald, who poked the ball into the net.

But the Blue Square Premier strugglers regained the lead in the 71st minute as Henney flicked home from a left-wing cross.

Macclesfield beat Port Vale 3-1 in their second-round tie at Vale Park.

The visitors took the lead in the ninth minute when Francis Green fired home following Martin Gritton's header, but Louis Dodds (71) briefly pulled Vale level.

The Silkmen were not to be denied, though, and clinched a place in the third round after goals from Green (73) and Gritton (90).

An error by Luke Prosser helped Macclesfield into the third round of the FA Cup as Port Vale slumped to a 3-1 defeat.

Vale were on top and looking favourites with the score tied at 1-1 when Prosser, who replaced the injured Lee Collins in the first-half, under-hit a back pass.

Macclesfield striker Francis Green raced clear to fire in his second goal of the game in the 73rd minute and Martin Gritton struck a third in the dying seconds to book the visitors place in the third round.

Vale were chasing a second equaliser when Gritton got the better of Anthony Griffiths and finished with aplomb from 12 yards out.

Macclesfield, with two wins under their belt in the last week, started full of confidence and took a deserved lead after nine minnutes having pinned Vale back.

Gritton flicked the ball on to Green and he did the rest with a swift turn to outwit Gareth Owen and a fierce shot to beat keeper Joe Anyon.

Louis Dodds came desperately close to conjuring an equaliser two minutes after the interval when he bent a 20-yard shot which bounced back off the crossbar.

And Vale did draw deservedly level in the 71st minute when Dodds fired in from point blank range after a driving run and pinpoint cross from substitute Danny Glover.

The visitors were not to be denied however and, after Green had taken full advantage of Presser's mistake to restore Macclesfield's lead, Gritton finished off proceedings.
