CREW on the set of the new James Bond movie Casino Royale trashed $1.2 million worth of cars in one expensive afternoon of filming.
Three identical Aston Martin DBS's were flipped on their roofs during shots for a high-speed Alpine chase, and within hours of the shoot beginning were wrecks, Britain's The Sun reports.

Described by Aston Martin as "explosive power in a black tie", the special edition V12 Aston was specially created for new 007 Daniel Craig and is not for sale, but experts say one would cost at least $410,000.

It seems that money is no object for the creators of the much-anticipated flick.

"These are easily the most amazing James Bond cars yet," a source said.

"They look incredible and cost a fortune.

"Unfortunately we had to smash three to pieces.

"It's exactly the sort of thing James Bond would do. And in the style of 007, our stunt driver walked away without a scratch."

The customised cars, which can do 0-100km/h in four seconds, had special pistons built underneath to flip them over at the Millbrook Vehicle Proving Ground in Bedford.

Casino Royale, which also stars Eva Green and Judi Dench, has been hyped as the darkest Bond film of them all, and will show 007 becoming a spy and getting his licence to kill.

The film also marks Craig's debut as the suave superspy not a popular choice among some diehard Bond fans who don't believe he's up to the job.
