Method actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was so determined to stay in character between scenes on new movie Doubt, co-star Meryl Streep was convinced she had upset him.
Streep was thrilled when she was cast alongside the Oscar winner in the movie adaptation of John Patrick Shanley's play, set in a Catholic school.
The actress plays a nun who clashes with Seymour Hoffman's priest over her suspicion he has abused a boy in their care.
And the actor insisted on maintaining their tense relationship off camera.
Streep says, "I really wanted to fool around and have some fun, because it's a grim story. But he stayed in character. I didn't think he liked me anymore."
