Vampire movie Twilight has shot to the top of the box office charts, biting off an impressive £2.5 million in its opening weekend.
The teen film, about a girl who falls in love with a vampire, pushed last week's number one, sci-fi movie The Day The Earth Stood Still, to fourth place.
Animated movie Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa came in second with takings of £1.8 million, ahead of festive comedy Four Christmases, which made £1.1 million.
Rounding out the top five was children's adventure movie The Tale of Despereaux, starring Matthew Broderick.
