Following the treatment of Shilpa Shetty by Jade Goody on the last series of 'Celebrity Big Brother', the makers of the show have been discussing their safeguards for the new series.

Channel 4's Commissioning Editor, David Williams, said: "There's never been a case of sanitising 'Big Brother'.
But he added: "We've got procedures in place so we can cope with any eventuality."

Phil Edgar Jones, the creative director of Brighter Pictures, the makers of the show, said: "If things are getting out of hand, we'll deal with them.

"We have so many checks and balances we've imposed upon ourselves."

This year's show is set to take a closer look at the lives of the celebrities taking part.

"We are going to try and explore the world of celebrity a bit," said 'Big Brother' creative director Sharon Powers.

She added: "There will be tasks that will be about life as a celebrity."

The series begins on Channel 4 on Friday, 2 January at 9pm, with rumours continuing to circulate about the identities of the 11 contestants.

"Not all the rumours about who is going in the house are true," said Powers.
