The Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring sci-fi classic 'The Terminator' is among the latest films chosen for preservation by the US Library of Congress.

The Library of Congress said that the 1984 James Cameron-directed film was chosen for preservation because it was one of the best films in the sci-fi genre and featured a star-making performance by Schwarzenegger.

Patrick Loughney of the Library of Congress film section told Reuters: "It's withstood the test of time, like 'King Kong' in a way, a film that endures because it's so good."
The other films just chosen for preservation in the Library of Congress' registry include: 'The Asphalt Jungle' (1950), 'Deliverance' (1972), 'A Face in the Crowd' (1957), 'In Cold Blood' (1967) and 'The Invisible Man' (1933).

Selection by the Library of Congress means that prints of films are preserved from colour fading, shrinking and other age-related damage.
