Jim Carrey's latest comedy Yes Man has gone straight to the top of the UK box office in its first weekend of release.

The film, based on a book by British writer Danny Wallace about his decision to change his life by saying yes to everything, took £2.3m over three days.

Adam Sandler comedy Bedtime Stories entered the UK chart at number two, taking £1.5m, with Baz Luhrmann's epic Australia completing the top three.

Indian film Ghajini was the only other new entry in this week's top ten.

Last week's number one, vampire romance Twilight slid to number five, while animated Madagascar sequel Escape 2 Africa fell from number two to number four.

Bedtime Stories, about a cleaner whose dreams begin to come true, is currently in second place in the US charts after bringing in $27.5m (£19m) in its opening weekend.

Jennifer Aniston comedy, Marley & Me, leads the US box office with with $36.4m (£25.2m), according to Exhibitor Relations.
