Former Big Brother star Jade Goody is to undergo emergency surgery on a blocked kidney today, according to The Sun.
Goody, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer in August, was forced to pull out of a panto role to have the urgent surgery and is not expected back to complete the run, which ends in four weeks.
Speaking about the surgery, a friend told the paper: "It needed to be done straight away. Doctors will see how she feels afterwards before deciding if she can leave hospital."
The surgery is understood to be more serious for Goody because chemotherapy drugs had hit her infection fighting blood cells.
The source added: "Because she is so prone to infection, every op becomes more serious than it would be for a healthy person. Jade is being brave and trying to remain upbeat but it's a worrying time."
But it is hoped Goody's stay in hospital will not be too long.
The star's agent said last night: "Her agent said last night: "We are hoping she can come out of hospital again quickly."
