'Waltz With Bashir' and 'I've Loved You So Long' are among this year's Orange British Academy Film Awards nominations which were announced yesterday.

The powerful animated Israeli film and the French drama are on the list with three others. Completing the Bafta shortlist for the Film Not in the English Language Award are Germany's 'The Baader Meinhof Complex', Italian mob film 'Gomorrah' and 'Persepolis', about a woman's memories growing up in Iran.

Finola Dwyer, chair of Bafta's Film Committee, said: "We are delighted to announce the contenders for this award. This voting chapter has doubled in size since last year, reflecting the huge enthusiasm for world cinema amongst the Bafta members."
Chapter voting was introduced for this Award 2007/08. A chapter is comprised of Academy voting members with expertise in a specific area of the film industry.

The nominees have been announced ahead of other categories to allow a longer period to view the five films and give them a greater profile.

Contenders for this year's Rising Star Award category will be announced today and all other nominations for the awards will be announced on January 15. The winners will be announced during a glitzy ceremony on Sunday, February 8 at the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden.
